In 2011 Abraham Ferraro began his series of work titled “Directions”, a series of colorful, mailable sculptures made from packing materials and shipping labels. Since then the series has grown to over 100 pieces of sculpture, which are exhibited together as an installation. Each time the installation is shown new pieces are added and mailed to the exhibition venue.  The installation is always site-specific, since each piece has interchangeable connecting parts (like legos) that allow him to create an environment that is directly related to the space it occupies. He says: “Directions is more than how Art physically gets from A to B, but specifically about the evolution of an idea or process that all artists experience as their work morphs and changes over time… in this case the dates and addresses lead the viewer through my evolution of form, color, and conceptualization of Mail Art…though I feel more like a Pop Artist appropriating packing stickers in my most recent work. I spend a good deal of time searching the internet for unusual packing stickers…I think it speaks volumes about society when I find a shipping label like a  green Alien Fragile or Pink Elephant Do Not Crush sticker”.

earned his BFA from SUNY Fredonia and MFA from SUNY Albany. He has exhibited internationally and extensively in New York State, including solo performance / exhibitions at Artists Space in New York City, Fulton Street Gallery & Collar Works in Troy, Time & Space in Hudson, Rochester Contemporary Arts Center, and Mercer Gallery in Rochester.
