The Lake George Arts Project’s Courthouse Gallery presents a two person
exhibition of new work by Diane Banks and Deanna Lee. The opening
reception takes place on Saturday, September 17, 6 - 8 pm, during the
intermission of performances at the Lake George Arts Project’s
JAZZ WEEKEND.
Come celebrate art and music in Lake George! These events are FREE and
open to the public.
Diane Banks creates mysterious, elegant objects out of
common discarded materials. Plastic bottles and other debris that may
have been intended for the landfill are given new life. In transforming
waste into lively animated objects she reminds us of the old adage: “One
person’s trash is another’s treasure.”
In a process she calls “controlled doodling”, Deanna Lee’s
paintings develop from clusters of lines that accumulate into
masses that evoke organic forms like hair, muscles, fungi, waves, or
wind currents. She says: “My goal is to arrive at a state of curiosity
and tension in each work, where the forms suggest but do not declare
their identities or purpose”.
This exhibition is funded in part by Price Chopper's
Golub Foundation and the New York State
Council on the Arts, a state agency. The Courthouse
Gallery hours during exhibitions are Tuesday through
Friday 12 – 5 pm, Saturday 12 – 4 pm, and all other
times by appointment. The Courthouse Gallery is located
at the side entrance of the Old County Courthouse,
corner of Canada and Lower Amherst Streets, Lake George,
NY.
