Mangano explores her connection with the natural world through prints,
works on paper, and installations. Her work focuses on the intersection
of nature, museums, academia and science to address issues of wildness,
wilderness, conservation, memory, and humanness. She says these systems
“create a lens that affects our understanding of nature: how that lens
influences people’s opinions, how it alienates us from or compares us to
the natural world, how it inspires awe and wonder, and how it causes us
to alter nature in the very act of observing it. Studying the systems
and methods we use to dissect and define [the natural world] tell us as
much about humanity as they do the natural world; nature, on the other
side of the lens of human culture, becomes
Mangano earned her B.F.A. in Printmaking, Drawing & Painting from
Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. Her work was recently
exhibited at SPACE Gallery, Future Tenant, and Fe Gallery, all in
Pittsburgh, PA; at Arts Monongahela and West Liberty University in West
Virginia; and the Strohl Art Center at the Chautauqua Institute in
Western NY. In 2014 her work was included in Errol Fuller’s book The
Passenger Pigeon, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Martha, the
last Passenger Pigeon. Mangano is a native of Syracuse, NY, and
maintains a studio in Pittsburgh’s South Side Slopes neighborhood.
This exhibition is funded in part by The Sherwood Group and the New York
State Council on the Arts, a state agency. The Courthouse Gallery hours
during exhibitions are Tuesday through Friday 12 – 5 pm, Saturday 12 – 4
pm, and all other times by appointment. The Courthouse Gallery is
located at the side entrance of the Old County Courthouse, corner of
Canada and Lower Amherst Streets, Lake George, NY.
